REAST was incorporated on 10 September 2004 following the cancellation of the Wireless Institute of Australia - Tasmania Division.
[1] Transitional committee following the cancellation of the Southern Branch of the Tasmanian Division of the Wireless Institute of Australia Inc and the incorporation of the Radio and Electronics Association of Southern Tasmania Inc on 10 September 2004. [2] In 2006 the membership voted to change the rules for the appointment of two Committee Members. The VK7 QSL/Awards Manager is John Bates, VK7RT.
Only WIA members are entitled to use the QSL Bureau. Being a
member of REAST or any other local club only, is not
sufficient. You must also be a WIA
member. The QSL bureau is funded by the WIA and is for the exclusive use of members of the WIA. The state QSL manager is appointed by the WIA and is supported by the WIA is all respects. As of
1 December 2007, all WIA members will be responsible
for the dispatch of their own cards to the NSW QSL Bureau at Teralba
(address below). WIA
members may dispatch their cards as often as they like.
The cost of sending their QSL cards is the responsibility
of that particular WIA member.
WIA National will
pay for the delivery of incoming cards to each WIA
member once a year. Only if the number of
cards received for a WIA member is excessive will WIA National pay for more than one delivery. Currently the “State” and Southern QSL Manager sorts and deposits Southern WIA members’ cards at the Domain Club rooms. This practice will continue after 1 December 2007. Cards for North and North West WIA members will still be forwarded as normal. SASE WIA members will still receive their cards in the manner in which they receive them now. SASE
members are now required to forward their cards directly to the NSW
QSLBureau at Teralba, unless they are REAST Members as
well. They are not to be forwarded to the
Southern QSL Manager any more. If such an
amateur is a REAST member, the following “action”
would apply to them: The
QSL Manager receives a list of WIA members every 3
months. If the QSL Manager believes that
QSL cards have been received from an amateur who is not on the latest
membership list, those cards will not be forwarded on to Teralba. If doubt arises as to whether or not an
amateur is a WIA member, those cards will be forwarded
to Teralba, who in turn will check whether or not that amateur is a WIA member or not, and then act accordingly. It is
proposed that the QSL Manager continue to collect all cards from VK7 WIA members in the South who are REAST members and, when
it is cost effective, call upon REAST to provide
funding for the cost of postage to the NSW QSL Bureau at Teralba. This is virtually what is happening at
present, except that the cost has been met by the “State” and Southern
QSL Manager as a form of “donation” to both REAST and WIA National. This would be on a cost effective
basis. It is
up to each individual amateur to forward their cards directly to the
NSW QSL Bureau. A local club may wish to
proceed in the way that REAST does for Southern amateurs who are both
WIA and REAST members. The payment of the cost of forwarding member’s QSL cards to the NSW QSL Bureau is one of the benefits that REAST provides to its
members. If any
further information is required, please contact me on 0409 778 382 or
email at Regards John W
Bates Qsl cards should be well designed with the following information displayed prominently on the card:
Cards should be no larger than 140mm x 90mm and no smaller that 125mm x 80mm. Cards are best printed on light weight card. Flimsy paper type cards and heavy card is not recommended. Cards collected by overseas amateurs for the purpose of gaining awards require precise information. |
